Chapter 3 - Document Analysis

Why is document analysis useful? What insights into the organization can it provide?

5 comments:

  1. Document analysis is important mainly because the project team of a particular system can start a new system by reviewing the documentation and examing the entire system itself. Additionally, document analysis is key to a strong system because most project teams forget to document; leaving them with the inability to go back and document it after it is completed. The documents represent the formal system that the organization uses; forms, reports, policy manuals, organization charts are just to name a few. With that, these documents can be rich sources of information regarding the particular system and being even more successful going forward. The most essential insight document analysis provides an organization is the ability to give strong indications of what needs to be changed, an additional source to be even more successful than the previous system.

  2. Document analysis is useful because it gives the project team the ability to review documentation from other stages in the project which helps keep the project moving forward toward the intial goal that was set out from the beginning. The document analysis also represents the formal system that the organization uses.

  3. Document analysis is very important because it gives the new team the chance to see what has already been changed and worked on. They can see what has and has not worked and hopefully make the system better based on these previous stages.

  4. Just like any organization, document analysis provides an insight into the past performance of the system. It allows the flow of information, resources and people to analyzed and provides a circumspect picture of the living system as it has been. Taking a deeper look at the documents and really analyzing them then allows the analysts the opportunity to critique past decisions in the system and improve on the existing system.

  5. Document analysis is very useful because it gives former teams the ability to look back at work and see what approaches have worked when it comes to projects. This will result in a more valued system and not having to "relearn" things that didn't work.
